Aside from fighting inside the cage, MMA fighter Darrill Schoonover is studying at New Mexico State University trying to get an undergraduate degree. In a recent interview, Schoonover revealed that he is trying to get an undergraduate degree in water technology in order to land a job; after that, he is eyeing to get a master’s degree in psychology.

However, he is trying to divert his focus into something else right now.

Schoonover said that he wants to fight Quinton Jackson inside the cage and get it over with as soon as possible.

MMA Darrill Schoonover“Before he gets too old, before I get too old, let’s do it. I guarantee I’ll put on more of a show than (Kevin) ‘Kimbo Slice’ (Ferguson). I’m like, c’mon. Kimbo’s a nice guy and all, but I’ll put on a hell of a show compared to that. It’s something that needs to be done. He has a problem with it. I have a problem with it. I don’t know why since he’s the one that tarnished the hell out of my name. This is the way I see it. Nowadays, with everybody suing at the drop of a hat, if someone were to tarnish someone’s name to such an extent as he did mine, I probably would have sued him. I don’t want to sue him. I don’t want his money. I want to step in there, get toe-to-toe with him, and settle it like men. That’s all I want to do,” Schoover said.

More than half a decade ago, Jackson and Schoonover met at “The Ultimate Fighter 10” as a coach and fighter respectively. They both appeared in the heavyweight division and worked pretty well together at first. However, as the season happens, Jackson and Schoonover nearly went head to head against each other when Jackson ticked Schoonover off by calling him “Titties”.

As the years passed, Schoonover revealed that he wanted to fight Jackson but was never given the chance to do so. The reason behind this is actually quite simple- Jackson was way ahead of Schoonover in terms of experience. Jackson is holding a record of 36-11 MMA and 3-0 BMMA; Schoonover, on the other hand, is holding a record of 14-8.

Schoonover didn’t go unnoticed though. He admitted that up to this day, Jackson is still insulting him and continued using derogatory terms. Even during the MMA Hour, Jackson didn’t call Schoonover by him.

“Every fighter’s dream is to get on (‘The Ultimate Fighter’) – that’s when they’re going to be able to make it. t was totally backward for me. Every time someone says my name now, I hear a derogatory comment. I’m tired of it, dude. Let’s settle this. I would love to settle it. When it first started (airing), I had a huge chip on my shoulder. I had to put everyone in their place. I’m done with all that. I’m mature now. I’m 30 years old. I’m ready to settle down and start a family. He tarnished my name. I’m a college student. I’m a business owner. I’m constantly taking kids off the streets and putting them in amateur boxing and just supporting the community. This (expletive) is just hanging over me like a cloud,” Schoonover added.
